Drawing 1: Ribbon

This is the 3rd part to out project. This is the improvisation. I wanted to show the delicacy of a ribbon but as you might see the "cause" symbol is standing strong and might even look like metal. This is also on warm 18x24 paper with woodless graphite pencil and a kneaded eraser. The picture on bottom was done first you can tell the differences from the two. the final one has a more matal look to the top of the ribbon and extends more off to the right as if it's standing up on its own.

This is part 2 of the 3 for our drawing project. This is the "line" aspect of my ribbon. It is done on 18x24 plain white paper and black paint.

This was my "value" drawing for one of our last projects in Drawing 1. The paper size is 18x24 in. and the medium used was a woodless graphite pencil. The first drawing was my first sketch on regular white paper. I re-drew it using the light box and decided to use a warmer paper.

Shape 4

The design on the left is the original. We were to use the same guidelines as before, except this time we were supposed to keep the essence of the square.

Shape 3

The gaol was the same for this design except we had to create an abstract, non-objective design.

Shape 2

Shape 1

We had to cut a 4x4 in. square up and create a flat, non-objective design on a white 8in x 10in white ground. We were supposed to destroy the identity of the square.

Mark 3

Mark 2

Mark 1

The goal of this exercise was to explore figure-ground relationship and possibilities of mark making. Our name was the inspiration for these "marks", but wasn't supposed to be readable at first glance. We were supposed to express emotion in our marks..(example: caotic marks, calm marks, thin/thick lines, etc.)

Value Study 1

The drawing approach we used was to block in the value pattern. Materials used were vine charcoal, kneaded eraser, and 18x24 paper. The major goal of this lesson was to see/draw the whole before the parts. And other goals of this lesson were to see/draw as a series of relationships.

The drawing was measured, seeing line. Medium used was charcoal and 18x24 paper. The major goal of this lesson was to see/draw the whole. Other goals were to see/draw a series of relationship.

Blind Continuous-line Contour

Observed Continuous-line cotour

The medium used was pencil. The major goal of this lesson was to not name the object. Other goals were to use the pencil and eye as one and to celebrate distortion.
